Leicester is Agresso’s 85th local government customer, joining existing customers such as Southampton City Council and Royal Borough of Windsor & Maidenhead. The council will implement Agresso Business World’s financial management module, replacing existing solutions from Computer Associates Masterpiece, Wealden Debtors and Spectrum Cash Receipting. Go live is scheduled for April 2008. Andy Morley, Chief Accountant at Leicester City Council, said Agresso had won the contract against stiff competition from Oracle and Cedar. “We went with Agresso because, following a detailed evaluation of all of the modules, in which we involved a wide cross-section of our system users, we felt that the system offered excellent functionality, and also had a very good “look and feel”. “This “user-friendly” element is particularly important when trying to involve users from outside the core finance teams. The Agresso approach to implementation is also very much in line with our own vision for financial systems development – and the price was attractive too!” The contract facilitates a future shared service capability with the option to bring on board additional councils under Agresso’s Memorandum of Understanding with the Office of Government Commerce (OGC). This offers public sector bodies pre-negotiated preferential pricing and an unrestricted user access licence. Agresso already has many customers that operate effective shared services. For example, together with Capita, it recently helped South Oxfordshire and Vale of White Horse District Councils to reduce their IT, processing and manpower costs. “We are increasingly seeing a drive towards the provision of shared services as both public and private sector customers realise the substantial savings they can achieve from the associated reduced annual support and maintenance charges,” said Agresso’s Sales Director Anwen Robinson. “Couple this with the beneficial pricing within Agresso’s framework agreement negotiated by OGCBuying Solutions on behalf of the Public Sector organisations and you have an all round winning formula.”
